So the long-awaited message eventually arrived on Saturday, April 28, 2001:

Susanita´s Beautiful One

Hey guys, just a little note to tell u all that Susanita mi amor eterno and meself had a gorgeous baby this afternoon, circa 1430 hours. Beany ended up surprising all and being a little gorgeous 4.07049 kilo, 53.6 cm black haired 9/10 apgar healthy, hungry and sleepy one. I´ve already been able to carry beany and cuddle to sleep, as well as help Susanita attempt some feeding in the first hours. the whole thing ended up being an op cause, in tru Miguelito tradition beany decided to keep on dancing and playing around before getting into place and doing things the right way. Curiously enough, ufo's have been spotted in Lima yesterday and the day before, the sign of great things to come???

Susanita is doing great too, just resting - alles is klar, alles is sehr gut. Focking lekker we would say. May I add that since we could choose, we chose nothing betta than South Africa's "Freedom Day", our spiritual home´s national day, 27 April, for little beany to remember the greatness of our loved homeland. By da way, in case if you are wondering, I´ve only taken a break and, at 1 am or so Lima time, I´ve rushed to send u this and to go back to mi amorcito. So please, PLEASE excuse this multisender letter. And really now, I think you also want to know....I am fine too, very proud and happy, just like Susanita with our little baby girl,
Sophia Isabella Guzmán-Artmann.

With all our sincere love,

The next update came on Sunday, April 29, 2001:

Susanita´s Gorgeous One

Just a little note, alles is gut, we are just learning and learning about all this stuff, have a photo which I'll scan in tomorrow (after bitching at the developer for doing a shit job). Will keep you a breast.

Always with you,

Migs, Susanita & Beany Sophia

Then an update later the same day:

Susanita´s Gorgeous One

Unfortunately, I'm going back to the clinic now - just came to get changed, shower and get a little break. Wish us luck with the milk. The clinic is great in that they have 24 hour specialized nurses, no, not in breast-feeding for people like you but in taking care of babies and teaching. Susanita was walking already early this morning and we should feel more relaxed now. Tomorrow we come home, sometime in the afternoon. Talk 2 u then bro - thanks for everything and please give Joan all our love please.

Our baby is a cutie, really gorgeous so says,

On Monday, May 7, 2001 the photos eventually arrived:

Susanita´s Beautiful One

BUENO, bueno, here we are, a full week into beanydom and the world is truly upside down, inside out and you name it, it has happened, starting by showing up to work groggy, bumping into Susanita´s toes at nite, hearing baby cries when there are none, diaper on the (wet) job expertise and lots, LOTS of happiness. For all of you, yes, I am wearing a huge diaper around my neck from all the gugu and the gaga and the hee-hee and the shhhhhh. Simply called babero in Spanish for all the droooolin´ going on. It's a great experience, unbeatable for sure, and like Spider Man says, with it comes responsibility. Nightshift, dayshift, it all is b-s. All is now just beanyshift.

We are getting adapted slowly but surely and in the coming days we should be up for more fun since I'll go on vacation in a while (by da way my office e-mail will go kaput for a while). Oh yes we´ve also had a virus worm, but I'll tell u about that in a different message).

By da way, gorgeous Sophialinda is up to weight and strength drinking as much milk as her papito drank beer and whatever else in South Africa ;-)) and, of course is learning all da tricks of life, smile or scream, she´ll go a long way... AND, therefore, as xtremely proud parents of the most gorgeous daughter in the whole world we will torment u with a vast array of photos, all of which show beany of course, aka Sophia Isabella. Here are some.

More news arrived on Sunday, May 13, 2001:

A Little Something...

I'm slowly falling into beanie schedules, learning and studying everything about my little one. Actually, I'm just staring at her mostly since its such a wonder to have her around and she is just so cute and gorgeous. The incessant changing of nappies, gasses and sleep-walking we have to do, the tenseness of the first bath (yesterday - Saturday), the pacing to her sleeping schedule, of three, four or (at night) five hour sleeps is an indication of a changed life, indeed changed for the best.

The worst part is you can't ask her what is going on when she cries, but, then again, it's one of 4 things: k-k, wind, teeta, sleep. Fortunately, Sophialinda likes music and TV, just like we, so we try to carry out as normal as possible. Susanita and I are doing this together, which is the most important part of all this process.

Two weeks and who would have believed it: I'm liking this thing called parenthood!!! Highly satisfying. Another one now now? First, a double Whopper and a beer, thank you ;-)))

The Special Day - Tuesday, June 5, 2001:

Only One

Today its only one photo, I guess because it's a special day, and it's a special photo. Needless to say it'll be my wallpaper soon. Sophialinda during her birthday. Running, jumping, talking, ehem, well, not quite, just rolling over, climbing, smiling, swimming in he tub, guguing, eckkeing, en fin, doing all those thingies that make us papitos melt. She got a mobile with some musiquita (I think Brahms) and loves it. Follows them toys with avidness and sings to the tune. I'll change the cd to Koos Kombuis soon so she can prepare for the coming of Pastor Pautz and to sing in the impossible yet forever probable wedding of von der Ohe and de Bruin, which (by da way dear California friends) is the name of a gorgeous Boerkie and not a bunch of 300-kilo losers pretending to study in a top university while earning school letters. Once again, please excuse the size of the message and the intimate impersonality of this way. Yours always,

Milk & Beer

So Beany is a bit over two months now and she's melting the world away with her little smiles and her absolutely cute utterings, words I guess we papafools call them (or wanna think they are at least). I think I heard her say a long "Aaaguuuaa!" twice today, which I've been repeating during the bath ("agua" = water in Spanish of course). But I think it was more the figment of the imagination of a parent, than the real thing. In the end it sounded more like "Eeeguua!" and surely she was trying to say "more milk and beer please". Sophia Linda is all smiles though, recognising us very well and laughing out loud now at even my most dumb jokes or sounds. She is great in the water too, loving her nightly baths and pushing herself all over. We took her up to the mountains this weekend and she did not complain, so soon we will embark in more trips, soon we'll have more photos but these are very cute. Too. Of course I'm exagerating, but I guess its all part of my pride and joy. And its fun too. Enjoy your week,
